The Grand Warden's interpretation of Nes-per-n-nub's Book of the Dead

I recently had opportunity to thoroughly examine the papyrus sent to us by our capable European colleagues. I shall send a detailed translation soon, but for now I must quickly summarize. The manager is unexpectedly vacating everyone from the premises. There is too much risk that he may intercept me carrying an object as conspicuous as this. Apologies in advance for the more indirect method of delivery I shall be using in this instance, as we must not leave the papyrus exposed to the elements overnight at our standard drop-off location.

Our most immediate point of interest is at the 67' mark of his papyrus. From what I can piece together of the damaged hieroglyphs, I think this passage might be a protective ward against his mummy being reanimated, although it is difficult to make out the details. Will the ward be effective against our attempt to revive him? Hard to say. However the importance of our cause demands that we try, as it is likely that the worst which may happen is that he simply remains un-animated.

With due respect to our European branch's Egyptologists, I must disagree with their translation of the iconography concerning Nes-per-n-nub's ill intentions: I do not believe this to be true. My analysis is that Daoloth was already present in the Dreamlands before Nes-per-n-nub's arrival. There is evidence that in his lifetime he began studying our field in order to eventually save the Dreamlands from its peril. When his culture became aware of his studies, he was vilified; a reaction some of our own members are all too familiar with. It's doubtful that his society even believed his warnings about what awaited them in their Field of Reeds. Thus, his intent must have been to single-handedly expel Daoloth from the Dreamlands. He certainly could not have had the more ornate plans suggested by our European colleagues. Other than containment or complete dismissal, Daoloth simply can not be controlled. And Nes-per-n-nub must have known this.

Of greater concern is the matter of his antagonist, the human figure which the Institute's earlier translation guessed as possibly being Amun-Ra. If Nes-per-n-nub intends to cure the Dreamlands of its ills, then it stands to reason that this entity desires the opposite. There is evidence to suggest that this is not a true member of the Egyptian pantheon, nor is it even of Earthly origin. Most likely this is an entity sometimes known as "The Black Pharaoh". In other cultures, it has been addressed as "The Bloody Tongue" or "The Crawling Chaos". We know of this monstrosity's true name, as communicating with Daoloth unfortunately requires invoking that name in its role as messenger. If this cunning shape-changer is physically present in the Dreamlands, we must avoid that world.

Time is short, but our moment is almost at hand. Take pride in knowing that all of your work shall soon come to fruition.

 Signed,
Grand Warden of the Institute of Hidden Eyes
