A note to the reader: So this handout will be drastically edited if this game were to ever be played again. The reason being that it's a red herring, one which needlessly adds confusion to the game.

Letter About BOTD Recovery

To our N.Amer. branch,

Packaged with this letter you shall find what we believe to be the very Book of the Dead which belonged to the Nes-per-n-nub housed in San Francisco, United States. For the past six years our North African and European branches have been searching diligently for artifacts which once belonged to your subject. A police auction of a deceased, private collector's property in Greece is what finally won us the prize. It is to our good fortune that any of the papyrus survived the blue inferno which claimed half of the collection as well as its owner.

Although much damage was sustained to portions of the document, our Egyptologists have the following interpretations to offer on the fragments which remain. Most of it, of course, is similar to any other Book of the Dead: It is a guide to the afterlife, offering many of the common spells necessary to survive the dangers of the Duat and to reach the Field of Reeds. But in Nes-per-n-nub's case, it would appear that he had rather unique ambitions for his afterlife.

I direct you to the 52' mark along the papyrus. Some of the shapes depicted therein are unlike any style previously seen in Egyptian art. Research suggests that one of these shapes may actually represent none other than our Daoloth. However Nes-per-n-nub is treating it with recklessness, directing it onto his people. In that same illustration is an object which we suspect to be the Untktoth, used for the purpose of summoning Daoloth onto the victims depicted therein.

Look further to the 67' mark. Again, the text is rather damaged but the imagery is quite clear. The symbol often used for representing a gate or door between the Underworld and Earth is shown here. It is common for a BOTD to discuss the subject of visiting Earth as a Ba, but these images show Nes-per-n-nub in human form making gestures and wielding a was scepter, a symbol of power or dominion. We believe that he was not content with ruling the Field of Reeds, and may have also desired to spread his influence back to the land of the living.

Lastly, there is a single reference of someone we have not identified, at the 59' mark. Some of our experts think this may be Amun-Ra. Even though Amun-Ra is not normally illustrated as wearing a pschent, the fact that his headdress is glowing implies him to be a sun god, and Amun-Ra was the prominent sun deity of Nes-per-n-nub's time. Of interest is how Nes-per-n-nub is instructed to avoid this figure. It would appear, therefore, that Nes-per-n-nub's dominion over the Field of Reeds is not complete. Or at the very least may become contested.

Much of this is not important. In the end, what is to be gained from this is that Nes-per-n-nub has some knowledge of accessing Daoloth. Therefore the Institute has made a wise decision in seeking to reanimate his form so that methods of communication may be established. It is recommended to continue as planned.

Signed,
